This work an experimental video based on the diary entries of Filipino-American Dancer & Choreographer Enrico Labayen (winner of The Isadora Duncan Award for Outstanding Achievement in Choreography) as he deals with and learns to live with HIV. An actor reads the diary entries and we recorded the reading to use as the voice over. The concept was to have a video that alternated darkness with intermittent flashes of light – where you could see him in full flight and mid dance. Another idea was to contrast moments of vitality with deterioration by using low light and video noise.
The ending uses a rolling credit to Etta James “I’ll Be Seeing You”. The original piece functioned as a two-screen video projection for a solo dance piece by Labayen. The video functioned as the only light source in the theatre.
